How Janey Learned Russian (former COLLEGE RUSSIAN)
United States
My name is Janey (по-русски--Жанна) and I have been teaching Russian for 13 years, learning Russian for 20 years and loving Russian culture since age 3! I originally designed this channel (formerly called College Russian) because I found that many of my students need a little extra help on things outside of class. I also know that there are many people out there who like to teach themselves languages but don't want to have to take that class in college. This is my way of helping you learn Russian as if you were in a Russian classroom. All videos provide you with lots of opportunities to practice and review. I hope you enjoy or at least just learn (but ideally you'll do both!). If you are interested in online lessons (via zoom) please email at collegerussian@gmail.com and/or follow me on Instagram: @collegerussian
So you want to see American life? You want to understand American culture? You won't find it on Times Square or Disneyland.
I have been challenging all my American students to come up with their list. This forces them to learn useful vocabulary to describe the world around us.

Trying to learn Russian? Hi! I’m Janey. An American who was crazy enough to fall in love with Russian language and literature many years ago. I taught myself Russian and my specialty is helping learners JUST LIKE YOU reach their goals in the language. My own blood sweat and tears PLUS a Masters Degree in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching PLUS 13 years teaching Russian in American universities makes me extra qualified to help you along your magical (and sometimes painful) Russian-learning journey.
I've been there. I understand your BRAIN and I understand your PAIN.
For tutoring inquiries, please email me: collegerussian@gmail.com.

The best explanation I’ve found :) excellent hack !!!
Oh my it payed off so much to actually understand that conversation between Donald and Trump
This is so useful
he kills the pawnbroker, not his landlady
This is a really amazing way to learn. Thank you for this. Beautiful song, too
Thank you for presenting all this information in such an interesting and inspiring way!

Incredible performance!😍👏 Please pay a little bit attention to my song 🙂(the only video on my channel). I combined American type hard rock music with Russian lyrics. That song has lyrics in English too (Polygon - The Winners In This Life, you can find it on popular music platforms). It was my band too, but vocals was not mine. But lyrics are composed by me for both versions.
Superb!!!
I often hear that english-speaking people instead of [soft consonant + vowel] tend to pronounce [soft consonant + й + vowel]. For example, in "мягкий знак", "мя" was pronounced like a sort of "мья" [м' й а] instead of "мя" [м' а].
Thank you girl ! Really understood the difference ! Finally

Also I heard that languages don't simplify, they just go in a cycle. Like, analytic > agglutinative > fusional > analytic and so on over and iver again. It lasts for thousands of years. Chinese is getting agglutinative little by little, Estonian is getting fusional little by little etc.
I've heard that the reason English lost its cases was due the fact that the English had to live side to side with Normans for centuries. They had both similar languages that differed mostly in case endings. So it wasn't Norman French that influenced the loss of cases but the very similar Norman speech (old Norse).
